Top 5 Best Digital Thermometers for Aquariums: Reviews

If you need a digital aquarium thermometer, the following are by far the best ones out there.

  • 🎈 Large numbers on 3.2" Large Transparent Screen : 3.2" large glass screen is larger than most of...

Here you have a very simple aquarium thermometer in digital format that you can easily stick to the outside of your aquarium.

Using a simple adhesive system, you can easily attach it anywhere on the outside of the aquarium. Just be aware that once you stick it on the tank, moving it is not very easy, because the adhesive will lose its power once detached.

Something we really like is that the glass on the display is transparent. The 3.2 inch large glass screen is see-through, which means that you can still see the aquarium through it, but the characters on it are very large and black, therefore making it easy to read.

The design and aesthetic appeal of this particular thermometer is very high, as far as I am concerned.

I also like the fact that there are no messy wires or probes that have to hang down into the aquarium, something else that helps to preserve the aesthetic appeal. Even though it is an exterior aquarium thermometer, it is still very accurate, which is of course the most important thing of all.

Pros

  • Accurate
  • Durable
  • Easy to read
  • Easy to set up
  • Low battery consumption
  • Looks decent

Cons

  • Small issues with the adhesive

If you just want the simple, basic, and accurate aquarium thermometer, this is the number one option I’d recommend.

Here we have another digital aquarium thermometer, with this one being fairly similar to the one I reviewed above. However, the major difference here is that the screen on this unit is not transparent, so you can’t see through it.

It features a solid back background combined with bright green characters, which does make it very easy to read. It’s not the most beautiful looking thermometer in the world, but it works very well, it’s easy to read, and tough too.

On that note, although this unit doesn’t cost all that much, it is quite durable, it features a good deal of impact resistance and water resistance. This is a special type of thermometer that can be recharged using a USB cable, so you never have to change batteries, plus it features low energy consumption as well.

Keep in mind that the temperature range here is between 14 and 122 degrees Fahrenheit, with temperature detection happening every five seconds. This should allow for fairly accurate temperature reading, although remember that this is an exterior thermometer, so it reads the temperature of the water through the glass.

Pros

  • Easy to read at any time
  • Easily adheres to the aquarium
  • Can be positioned anywhere
  • Fairly accurate
  • Great price

Cons

  • Doesn’t look the nicest

If you want to save some money and just want something simple that works, then this is the aquarium thermometer I’d recommend.

Here is a very similar aquarium thermometer to the one I reviewed above, although this one is even more affordable. If you are on a tight budget, then this is the one I’d recommend over all others. Just like the other aquarium thermometers we have looked at so far, this is also an exterior one. This means that there is an adhesive system that you use to attach to the outside of the tank.

This does allow for a very secure attachment, although it means that it can also be very hard to move. Furthermore, the display of this unit is quite large and easy to read, as it features a black backdrop combined with bright green letters, so you can read it no matter the angle or time of day.

I do like how this is a cordless thermometer, because it helps to preserve the visual appeal of your tank, although measuring the temperature through the aquarium glass can reduce accuracy a little bit.

In fact, this thermometer is rated to be accurate to within 0.9 degrees Fahrenheit, which is alright. I do also really like how it features a 5 second refresh speed, so it keeps real time track of water temperature.

Pros

  • Looks nice
  • Very low price
  • Durable
  • Easy to read
  • Easy setup
  • Long battery life

Cons

  • Could be a little more accurate

If you are constrained by a tight budget, but still need a reliable aquarium thermometer, then this is a model I’d always recommend.

If you happen to have two aquariums, then this is a good option to consider, mainly because you get two aquarium thermometers. Now, as far as accuracy is concerned, this is probably the best option on the list today, and the reason for this is because it is a corded thermometer.

This means that although the display can attach to the outside of the aquarium, using a suction cup and slide-on hanger system, there is also a cord with a temperature probe that has to go inside of the tank.

Measuring the actual water instead of the temperature through the glass makes this type of thermometer much more accurate than the others that we have looked at so far today.

What is also nice about this unit is that the working after the battery is up to 8 months, and it’s a relatively regular battery that is easy to replace as well.

You might also appreciate the large 1.6 inch display that is quite easy to read, mainly because it has large characters that are very clear. All in all, this is one of my favorite units on the list today, and it doesn’t even cost pretty much either.

Pros

  • Very accurate
  • Easy to read display
  • Durable design
  • Simple mounting system
  • Very budget friendly

Cons

  • Not the highest visual appeal

If you need a good aquarium thermometer that is extremely accurate, this might just be the best option on the list today.

5. Zacro Petbank Digital Aquarium Thermometer

  • Submerge probe into fish tank to measure water temperature (Submerge probe only, do not submerge...
  • Easy to apply suction cup and easy to read LCD screen; Temperature readings to within 0.1 degree

Here we have another very similar model to the one reviewed above, with this also being an internal thermometer. This means that there is a small display that you can attach to the outside of the aquarium using a suction cup, but there is also a small probe that you have to put inside of the tank. ‘

Personally, I prefer this type of aquarium thermometer because putting a probe inside of the water makes it very accurate. In fact, this is by far one of the most accurate aquarium thermometers that your money can buy, especially for the rock bottom price that it comes in at. It’s actually accurate to within 0.1 degrees Fahrenheit.

It’s powered by a single battery that should last for about a year, plus it’s also very easy to replace. Something that I personally like about this aquarium thermometer is that it’s also very small, so it doesn’t take up too much space, and doesn’t get in the way of viewing your fish.

Pros

  • Small and compact
  • Affordable
  • Good battery life
  • Easy to mount
  • Great accuracy

Cons

  • The display can be hard to read from a distance

Take me to a small aquarium thermometer that doesn’t take up too much space or get in your way, and doesn’t cost too much money, this is the option I recommend.

Digital Thermometers for Aquariums Buyers Guide: What To Look Out For

Before we call it a day let’s quickly talk about some of the main considerations to keep in mind when choosing a digital thermometer for your aquarium.

Type

Always consider the difference between external and internal aquarium thermometers. External thermometers measure the temperature through the glass, whereas internal thermometers use a probe that you have to put in the water. External thermometers tend to look a bit better, but are less accurate.

Accuracy

Speaking of accuracy, depending on the model in question, an external thermometer may still be more accurate than an internal one. It really depends on the overall quality. Always pay attention to the precision range as indicated by the product in question.

Mounting

If you’re going for an external unit, then the only option for mounting is an adhesive, because the temperature sensor needs to be right up against the glass, and using adhesives can cause problems, especially when it comes to moving the thermometer once it has already been attached. Thermometers that use internal probes are often attached to the outside of the tank using suction cups, which is more convenient.

Size

There is also a trade off to consider here in terms of size, because smaller units take up less space and aren’t as much in the way, but they’re also harder to read.

Display

Speaking of being easy to read, we recommend going for a model that has a backlit display, and a good deal of contrast, to make it easy to read at any time of day or night, and from any annual.
